Ridge Augmentation

Return to gallery

A ridge augmentation involves the placement of bone particles or blocks of bone obtained from other sites in the mouth or from a bone bank into sites under the gums to replace bone that is missing. The procedure is also used to create additional bone that is needed for a dental implant or sometimes under a dental bridge to make the gums look more natural.

Patient A

Before Ridge Augmentation

This patient was missing two of the upper front teeth. The patient wanted to have the teeth replaced with dental implants but the bone was too narrow to allow the implants to be placed. The before photo shows the areas where the teeth were missing as the patient presented and the after photo shows the increase in width of the same areas 6 months after the ridge augmentation procedure was completed. Notice how the outside of the jaw is built out where the teeth are missing (arrows) in the after photo.
