Frenectomy

Removing the small fold of tissue inside the upper or lower lip, usually in the front, where it attaches to the gum.
This procedure is also utilized under the base of the tongue to free the tongue when its motion is restricted. The procedure is completed under a local anesthetic and releases the tension on the gumline where the frenum attaches to help prevent gum recession or removes the frenum from between teeth so a space can be closed and remain closed with orthodontic treatment.
